The Waldorf Hilton, Covent Garden

The Waldorf Hilton, Covent Garden

The Waldorf, known as The Waldorf Hilton since January 2004, has an illustrious history and rich heritage dating back to its opening in 1908. Set in the heart of London’s theatre land, close to Covent Garden, the hotel has attracted a string of stars from all over the world. Gertrude Lawrence, Sir Thomas Beecham, Elizabeth Taylor, Pavarotti, Pierce Brosnan and Dame Judi Dench are just a handful of show business icons that have stayed at the hotel.

Afternoon Tea is served in Good Godfrey's Bar and Lounge and Good Godfrey’s proudly takes its name from the former leader of the Waldorf House band, the handsome and talented Howard Godfrey. Howard Godfrey and the Waldorfians enjoyed huge success in the early 1920’s as serious players on the London Social scene, boasting hit records and popular acclaim; the Best Show in Town. The Waldorf is proud of its opulent past and it has inspired them throughout the creation of the new bar.

Afternoon Tea consists of a mouth-watering array of delicate pastries, little cakes and scones with clotted cream and strawberry preserve. You can indulge in some luxurious Champagne and choose from a wide range of distinct blends of tea, imported by specialist tea suppliers from around the world. Waldorf Hilton London afternoon tea

The Tea Selection

In Homage Private Bar we serve a large range of loose leaf tea blends delivered to us only by the Royal English Collection.

Loose Leaf Green Teas

Jasmine Green

Clear and refreshing green tea, with a very pleasant light fragrance and extremely smooth, slightly sweet finish.

Sencha Genmai

Sencha emphasizes the light astringency of the earliest tea leaves of spring’s first flush. The first time you try it, it will seem very dry, sharp-tasting, but over time one can appreciate the brisk, grassy freshness and cleansing finish.

Loose Leaf White Teas

China White Silver Needle

Slightly viscous, glittering pale yellow colour with evidence of floating white hairs that reflect light. Most popular for its relaxing effect, with delicate, light, fresh and sweet fragrance.

Loose Leaf Black Teas

Assam

Indian origin tea, most of which is grown at or near sea level, is known for its body, briskness, malty flavour, and strong, bright colour. Assam teas, or blends containing Assam, are often sold as "breakfast" teas.

Lapsang Souchong

China large black leaf tea from the Fujien province. Lapsang is distinct from all other types of tea because its leaves are traditionally smoke-dried over pinewood fires, taking on a distinctive smoky flavour.

Earl Grey

A large black leaf tea, China based, beautifully balanced with refreshing citrus bergamot. This tea is silky and smooth with a delightful aroma.

Darjeeling

Darjeeling is referred to as the "champagne" of the teas. This tea is universally acknowledged as the finest tea because of its inimitable flavour, thin-bodied, light-coloured liquor with a floral aroma. The flavour also displays a tinge of a musky spiciness.

Ceylon Dimbula

Sri Lanka black tea is characterized by its warm, wooden flavours and tannic pucker. An ideal full-bodied afternoon tea and powerful morning tea.

Royal English

A wonderful blend, the rich malty taste of Assam, blended with the fine flavour of Ceylon and the wonderful colour of Kenyan, making this blend very well-rounded.

Orange Blossom Oolong

Produced through a unique process of  withering under the strong sun and oxidation before curling and twisting, this Oolong tea blended with fresh orange blossom flowers is delicate, light and highly refreshing.
