Ollerton Watermill Tea Shop

Ollerton Watermill Tea Shop

The old millwright's workshop and watermill, built in 1713 and now fully operational, is the wonderfully atmospheric setting for this friendly tea shop. The old mill has been put to work again after the Mettam family - owners and millers since 1921 - decided to restore it and open it to the public.

The tea shop was an inspirational stroke of genius when it was set up to offer refreshments to mill visitors, and its popularity quickly soared. Sisters-in-law Kate and Ellen Mettam are very particular about the produce that goes into their menu, and the result is home-baked cakes, quiches, salads and mouth-watering puddings; the cream tea with its three plain or fruit scones, jam, cream and strawberries is a perrenial winner.

The views from the window looking upstream to the waterwheel and mill race are delightful. For those who want to learn a little about the working life of the eighteenth-century miller, this lovely spot is the perfect place.
