Winner of the Tea Guild’s Top City and Country Hotel Tea Award 2011, this former coaching inn is now an elegant Georgian hotel at the heart of the bustling market town of Abergavenny, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons.

Tea is usually served in the restaurant or sitting room, at tables beautifully set with crisp linen and fine bone china. During the summer months, when the weather is fine, afternoon tea may be enjoyed in the secluded courtyard. From time to time, themed afternoon tea events are held in the grand ballroom.

The hotel’s specialist baker, Sally Lane, and her dedicated team bake scones, cakes and pastries every day. Favourites include chocolate brownies, custard slices, banoffee tartlets, carrot cake and profiteroles.

The Angel Hotel’s interesting and beautifully descriptive tea menu offers a fine selection of over twenty teas, including seasonal choices. The House selection is a fine Assam and Sri Lankan blend; speciality teas include Russian Caravan, Jasmine Pearls, Iron Budha and 3-year Vintage Mini Tuo. Knowledgeable staff are happy to assist you in your choice of tea.

Afternoon Tea

A selection of sandwiches including smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber, home-cooked ham and egg mayonnaise with cress. Warm scone with strawberry jam and a choice of clotted cream, freshly whipped cream or butter. Afterwards a delicious selection of freshly-baked cakes and pastries created by Sally Lane will be served and Afternoon Tea will be accompanied by your choice of tea.

Begin this treat with a glass of house champagne followed by a selection of sandwiches including smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber, home-cooked ham and egg mayonnaise with cress. Warm scone with strawberry jam and a choice of clotted cream, freshly whipped cream or butter. Selection of freshly-baked cakes and pastries. Accompanied by your choice of tea.

High Tea

Enjoy a selection of warm savoury pastries, followed by sandwiches including smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber, home-cooked ham and egg mayonnaise with cress. Warm scone with strawberry jam and a choice of clotted cream, freshly whipped cream or butter. Selection of freshly-baked cakes and pastries. Accompanied by your choice of tea.

For a real treat, start with a glass of house champagne. Enjoy a selection of warm savoury pastries, followed by sandwiches including smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber, home-cooked ham and egg mayonnaise with cress. Warm scone with strawberry jam and a choice of clotted cream, freshly whipped cream or butter. Selection of freshly-baked cakes and pastries. Accompanied by your choice of tea.

Cake Box
Should there be any cakes left when you have finished tea, they can be put into a box and tied with ribbon, for you to take home.
