Bingham is a stylish hotel, restaurant and lounge bar ideally situated on the banks of the River Thames in Richmond, Surrey, and who launched their classic afternoon tea at the end of July.
Bingham is a Grade 11 listed Georgian building which was originally built as two houses in 1740 and were described in a 1773 rental survey for King George 111 as a “messeuge” (a dwelling) with stables and coach house.
The present owners have modernised this fine Georgian townhouse and guests now enjoy Afternoon Tea within the chic and elegantly refurbished lounge or restaurant. Large picture windows in the lounge bar and restaurant afford afternoon tea guests views over the landscaped garden from where a gate opens directly onto the river towpath.
Bingham is the ideal base for exploring Richmond Park or the Thames and then enjoying a delicious afternoon tea which is served in summer on the pretty terrace overlooking the river or in cooler seasons in the chic and newly re furbished lounge bar or restaurant.
Has been created by Executive Chef, Shay Cooper, and his classic menu includes a selection of freshly made sandwiches (cucumber; free range egg and cress; organic smoked salmon; honey roast ham and Pommery mustard) followed by plain and fruit scones served with handmade preserves and Devon clotted cream and a selection of cakes and pastries such as Valrhona chocolate and cardamom cake, summer fruit tart, spiced carrot cake and pistachio macaroons. Bingham Afternoon Tea includes a pot of specially selected loose leaf tea with choices including Jing Assam Breakfast, special Earl Grey, Jungpana Darjeeling and flowering red Amaranth which is a hand tied green tea.
As above but including a glass of champagne to complement the afternoon tea experience.
Shay Cooper, the Bingham’s executive chef has devised a tea menu which includes a selection of strawberry inspired cakes and pastries: Wild Strawberry tartlet; Strawberry & Lemon Verbena trifle; Strawberry & Violet Financier, Strawberry & Black Pepper brioche, and of course Strawberry Shortcake. The homemade plain and fruit scones are served warm with handmade fruit preserves (including strawberry jam) and Devon clotted cream. There is a selection of quintessentially English sandwiches (cucumber; free range egg and cress; organic smoked salmon and honey roast ham with pommery mustard) to start. A superb range of loose leaf teas are available, including a strawberry scented variety.
