The English Tea Room at Brown's Hotel

The English Tea Room at Brown's Hotel

Brown’s Hotel was created in 1837 by Lord Byron’s butler (James Brown)and his wife, Lady Byron’s maid, out of four adjacent Georgian houses (it is now made up of 11 houses). Its rich story includes the fact that Queen Victoria herself often took tea here, the Roosevelt's honeymooned here and Agatha Christie based 'At Bertram’s Hotel' on Brown’s.

A recent refurbishment has brought a light, contemporary style to the historical building and Afternoon Tea is served in the very attractive and comfortable lounge where the atmosphere is enhanced by live piano music from the baby grand.

The English Tea Room's delightful Manager, Leyla Mussaud, and her superb team look after their guests with charm, great courtesy and thoughtful efficiency and serve the famous "Brown's Afternoon Teas" with delicious sandwiches, scones (with clotted cream) and lovely home made pastries and a choice of 17 different teas including Brown's specially selected own Afternoon Blend and the exclusive "Tregothnan Classic Tea" which is grown on the Tregothnan Estate in Cornwall plus wonderful teas from Sri Lanka, Africa, China and Japan.
